Day 17: Small Wins Build Momentum
Today in the EIS 30-Day Student Engagement Program, we are celebrating the power of small wins. When students, families, and teachers notice steady effort and improving habits, it sends a clear message: you belong here, your voice matters, and your progress counts.
Noticing Effort, Not Perfection
On Day 17, we focus on recognizing effort, participation, and improving habits. That might look like completing this week’s reflection, asking for help instead of staying silent, arriving on time more consistently, finishing an assignment that felt challenging, or following through on a personal goal for the week.
These actions show courage and commitment. They also strengthen a student’s sense of belonging, because each step says, “I’m showing up for myself, and the adults in my life are showing up for me.”
How Recognition Works in This Classroom
Teachers may recognize participation in a few ways. Sometimes it is as simple as a personal comment, a quick note, or a thumbs-up during class. When available, we also use the Five Star Students system to record and celebrate these efforts so students can see their progress over time.
If Five Star Students is configured for this classroom, a completed weekly report that is shared with the teacher earns 20 points. These points recognize the action of reflecting and communicating, whether the student reports perfect grades and attendance or is still working through challenges. The message is: your honesty, your voice, and your effort matter.

Regular reflections help students notice their own growth and small wins.
Partnering Together: Student, Parent, Teacher
Student action: This week, identify one improvement you have made. Maybe you asked a question in class, turned in something on time, or checked your grades instead of avoiding them. Name it clearly in your reflection.
Parent conversation prompt: Ask your student, “What did you do differently that helped?” Then listen fully. Let them explain in their own words. This supports student voice and shows that their choices and ideas are important at home too.
Teacher commitment: We will notice progress, however small, and explain how recognition works in this class so students understand why they are being acknowledged and how tools like points, notes, or shout-outs connect to their effort.
Using Technology to Stay Connected
AI and automation in our systems do not replace relationships; they support them. Automated reminders, point tracking, and simple dashboards help teachers, students, and families keep up with communication, notice patterns, and respond more quickly with encouragement and support.
Your Next Step: Name Today’s Small Win
To keep the momentum going, submit this week’s reflection and name one small win. Together—as students, parents, and teachers—we will keep building on these moments of effort, connection, and growth.
