Day 10: Ask About Progress, Not Just Grades

Today’s focus in the EIS 30-Day Student Engagement Program is simple and powerful: talk about how your student is growing, not only the numbers on a page. Our new weekly progress and reflection report is designed to help students, parents, and teachers check in together and strengthen a sense of belonging at school.

What the Weekly Progress & Reflection Report Includes

Each week, students receive a short report that gathers the basics in one place. It shows how they are doing in their classes, whether that is traditional course grades or credits earned in a continuation or alternative program. It also summarizes attendance, tardiness, recent accomplishments, current challenges, and one clear goal for the coming week.

The goal is not to judge. It is to give every student a voice in telling their own story and to give adults a starting point for helpful, caring conversations.

Student Action: Share Your Story Each Week

Students, your action for Day 10 is to complete and share the weekly report through the program’s approved process. Take a few minutes to look honestly at your progress, write about what went well, and name what felt hard. Then choose one realistic goal for next week, such as “be on time to first period three days” or “finish my missing assignment in English.”

A simple weekly reflection helps students see effort, not just outcomes.

A Gentle Prompt for Parents and Caregivers

When your student shares their report, you do not need all the answers. What matters most is a consistent, caring connection. Try this conversation prompt: “What are you proud of this week, and where would you like some help?”

Listen for effort: showing up, trying again after a setback, asking a question in class. Naming these moments tells your student, “You belong here, and your hard work matters.”

Teacher Commitment and Supportive Tools

As teachers, our commitment is to review each reflection and acknowledge effort. We look for the goals students set, the challenges they name, and the ways they are trying. Our responses are meant to encourage, adjust support, and keep communication steady.

AI and automation in this program simply help us share reports quickly, send reminders, and keep information organized. They never replace the human relationships at the center of learning; instead, they make it easier for students, families, and teachers to stay connected and respond to what students say they need.
